#96Footballs Photography Project at Bombed Out Church

PRESS RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
#96Footballs Photography Project
Tuesday 1st July 2014

We are happy to announce that #96Footballs Photography Project will be participating in this year’s Liverpool Independents Biennial 2014, launching at The Bombed Out Church (the Church of St Luke) on Saturday 5th July 2014 at 3:30pm to 4:30pm with very special guests that will unveil our next photographic print entitled: ‘The Kids of Anfield Sports & Community Centre’.

The project has been initiated by David Thomas Crawley who has spoken with the family groups since January 2013. The project began life as #HASP (Hillsborough Art and Sports Project) but which has evolved into #96Footballs inspired by photography that David has taken during this time. David has spoken with many people in the City of Liverpool, Sheffield and Nottingham having studied and lived in all three cities. It is his intension now to open the project to the wider public, beginning in Liverpool and on an international scale that the Liverpool Independents Biennial can provide to the project.

The Bombed Out Church will act as a hub during the Biennial that runs from July – October 2014 and we will be releasing further up to date information via our blog and social media outlets during the Biennial. Ambrose Reynolds, Curator at The Bombed Out Church has spoken to David about this idea at great length as both are passionate about the community of Liverpool and feel that this is the right venue for the visitors to come and view the photographic print and leave their own thoughts.

Photographers from Liverpool that support the project have been asked to participate by taking their own images that will be included within the project as this progresses.

A series of workshops will happen during the summer months in The Bombed Out Church, Anfield Sports and CommunityCentre and involving various other community groups, schools, colleges etc in the build up to the end of the Liverpool Independents Biennial 2014.

Our social media element to the project will be launched at this time and further information will be released on the day. So no matter where you are in the globe you too will have the opportunity to do something very special.

Friday 2nd May 2014

Exhibition as part of #Photography of Croxteth Country Park, Liverpool, L12

Exhibition runs from Saturday 3rd May 2014 and every Sunday till 25th May 2014.

Saturday 3rd May 2014
Lord Mayor Gary Millar will open the St Cuthberts Photographic exhibition between 1pm and 4pm.

The exhibition will remain on display for 4 consecutive Sundays and it will feature photographs from a competition which relate to Croxteth Park and the surrounding area. In addition to the exhibition a Doctor from Alder Hey will be giving a talk about his role and in particular a rare neurological disorder called Meobius Syndrome in an attempt to raise awareness and money for a related charity.

#96Footballs will also feature photographic images from their project which is designed to commemorate and remember the tragedy of the Hillsborough Disaster on 15th April 1989. It takes the form of participants being photographed holding the #96football showing support to the families that lost their loved ones that fateful day.

It started life as #HASP (Hillsborough Arts & Sports Project) in January 2013  by David Thomas Crawley and launched at the Caravan Gallery – ‘Liverpool Pride Of Place Project’ back in May 2013.

David was put in contact with Irene McGlone, whose husband Alan McGlone died at Hillsborough, through the Hillsborough Family Support Group. Their daughter’s Amy McGlone and Claire McGlone allowed David to photograph their children at their home in Kirkby. This became the portrait piece entitled ‘The McGlone Grandchildren’ exhibited at the Caravan Gallery.

David studied at Sheffield Hallam University in BA(Hons) Fine Art and MA Contemporary Fine Art (Curation) and at Liverpool John Moores University in BTEC Foundation Art and Design and PGCE Secondary/Post16 Art and Design with QTS and has worked in Liverpool, Sheffield, Nottingham and Derby as a teacher, lecturer, artist with projects at Liverpool Biennial (1999, 2002, 2004, 2010), Liverpool Independents Biennial (various years), Tate Britain with BA research in Photographic Dept (2000), Derby QUAD as Education Curator (2010) and various exhibitions as Curator/Artist with Up & Coming Arts exhibitions (2008, 2010, 2012). David has amassed his experiences to form #96Footballs with contacts in the arts in both Liverpool, Sheffield and Nottingham.

#96Footballs is a grass roots project and will be applying for funding towards the exhibitions planned for July 2014 – October 2014 as part of Liverpool Independents Biennial 2014. Rob Andrew Smith is currently helping David photograph further participants holding the #96Footballs in and around Liverpool. International photographers are also being encouraged to participate via social media with facebook and twitter

#96Footballs would like to thank St. Cuthberts Church, Croxteth Country Park, Liverpool, L12 for allowing us to show images from the project.

Further information will be released in the coming weeks......

PRESS RELEASE
15th April 2014

#96footballs is a photographic project that will result in an exhibition later in 2014.

This project takes the form of participants being photographed holding the #96football showing support to the Hillsborough Disaster and the families that lost their loved ones that fateful day. Local Liverpool photographers David Thomas Crawley and Rob Andrew Smith will be initiating this project with local Liverpool and Sheffield people being photographed for the exhibition.

We have asked a number of International Photographers to participate in this project that we will release in the coming months.

Facebook and Twitter will be used for participants to take their own photograph holding their own decorated #96football. Simply paint your own football white adding the number 96 and upload this to your social media adding #96footballs. These will be used in the main exhibition later in 2014.

Our thoughts are with all the families today this being the 25th Anniversary of the Hillsborough Disaster on 15th April 1989. #YNWA #JFT96.
