Friday 2nd May 2014

Exhibition as part of #Photography of Croxteth Country Park, Liverpool, L12

Exhibition runs from Saturday 3rd May 2014 and every Sunday till 25th May 2014.

Saturday 3rd May 2014
Lord Mayor Gary Millar will open the St Cuthberts Photographic exhibition between 1pm and 4pm.

The exhibition will remain on display for 4 consecutive Sundays and it will feature photographs from a competition which relate to Croxteth Park and the surrounding area. In addition to the exhibition a Doctor from Alder Hey will be giving a talk about his role and in particular a rare neurological disorder called Meobius Syndrome in an attempt to raise awareness and money for a related charity.

#96Footballs will also feature photographic images from their project which is designed to commemorate and remember the tragedy of the Hillsborough Disaster on 15th April 1989. It takes the form of participants being photographed holding the #96football showing support to the families that lost their loved ones that fateful day.

It started life as #HASP (Hillsborough Arts & Sports Project) in January 2013  by David Thomas Crawley and launched at the Caravan Gallery – ‘Liverpool Pride Of Place Project’ back in May 2013.

David was put in contact with Irene McGlone, whose husband Alan McGlone died at Hillsborough, through the Hillsborough Family Support Group. Their daughter’s Amy McGlone and Claire McGlone allowed David to photograph their children at their home in Kirkby. This became the portrait piece entitled ‘The McGlone Grandchildren’ exhibited at the Caravan Gallery.

David studied at Sheffield Hallam University in BA(Hons) Fine Art and MA Contemporary Fine Art (Curation) and at Liverpool John Moores University in BTEC Foundation Art and Design and PGCE Secondary/Post16 Art and Design with QTS and has worked in Liverpool, Sheffield, Nottingham and Derby as a teacher, lecturer, artist with projects at Liverpool Biennial (1999, 2002, 2004, 2010), Liverpool Independents Biennial (various years), Tate Britain with BA research in Photographic Dept (2000), Derby QUAD as Education Curator (2010) and various exhibitions as Curator/Artist with Up & Coming Arts exhibitions (2008, 2010, 2012). David has amassed his experiences to form #96Footballs with contacts in the arts in both Liverpool, Sheffield and Nottingham.

#96Footballs is a grass roots project and will be applying for funding towards the exhibitions planned for July 2014 – October 2014 as part of Liverpool Independents Biennial 2014. Rob Andrew Smith is currently helping David photograph further participants holding the #96Footballs in and around Liverpool. International photographers are also being encouraged to participate via social media with facebook and twitter

#96Footballs would like to thank St. Cuthberts Church, Croxteth Country Park, Liverpool, L12 for allowing us to show images from the project.
